Entitled “Navigating Sustainability: Strategies for Organizational Resilience,” this event will mark a pivotal moment within the NIBES network. It underscores the pressing need for in-depth exploration and analysis of sustainable organizational practices, an area of inquiry that has rapidly ascended to prominence within the realm of management research.
The imperative to delve into sustainable organizational management stems from the intricate interplay between societies and their ecosystems, which often manifests in socio-environmental crises such as climate change. Despite its urgency, existing research has predominantly overlooked the complex dynamics of socio-environmental relationships and sidestepped critical inquiries into the capacity of economic systems to operate sustainably while staying within planetary boundaries.
Recognizing this critical gap, numerous scholars advocate for interdisciplinary approaches to imbue management research with a more holistic and systemic perspective. By doing so, we aim to gain deeper insights into the mechanisms through which organizations and societies can achieve sustainability while respecting the delicate balance of our planet, whether at the local or global level.
In line with this imperative, the 8th NIBES Workshop is designed to probe into a spectrum of pertinent questions, including:
- How do climate/environmental changes and social transformations influence the behaviors of consumers and organizations, both at the individual and systemic levels?
- What implications does the pursuit of carbon neutrality hold for organizational management and the adherence to planetary boundaries?
- In what ways do organizations initiate and implement governance or management strategies that effectively integrate considerations of planetary boundaries?
- How can diverse cultural perspectives on management contribute to addressing the sustainability challenges inherent in environmental and social systems?
